Drama Club

Drama Club meets every Wednesday after school from 3:30 - 4:30 pm in the Drama room. The Drama Club is a place where students have the opportunity to develop and share their creative talents through the avenue of Performing Arts. Students will learn a variety of voice and pronunciation techniques, develop their own script writing and character development. Hillcrest students will be able to show case their talents in a variety of dramatic settings; Improvisational Skits, Short Plays, Scripted Vignettes and Mime Techniques. This club keeps a fun and fluid open space for all to participate in. Come join us!

Black History Club

BHM crew
After winning the City of Ottawa's Black History Month Youth Community Builder award in its inaugural year, our club is still strong in its third year. Our club is open to all students and we talk about issues, share personal stories and support as well as play games and occasionally receive speakers from the community. We also plan to attend a few conferences and mount our annual Black History Month Assembly for Hillcrest and for feeder school students.

Our assembly's theme is Roots and we will focus a bit on Thomas Peters who is featured in Book of Negroes and who is an important Black Loyalist from Nova Scotia. Thomas Peters founded the colony of Sierra Leone for freed slaves from the British Empire. Also, Thomas Peters is a distant ancestor of another Black History hero, Walter Peters who worked closely with our club and who we have regularly featured in our assemblies. Walter Peters was Canada's first black pilot in the air force. He was also a snowbird. His family settled in Orleans and still keep in touch with our club.

Black History Club meets every Wednesday at lunch in Rm219.

See Ms. Enns for more information.

Impact Club

What is Impact Club?

We are a club made up of students at Hillcrest High School which raises awareness about many social justice and environmental issues, both in the local and global communities. We also raise supplies and money for various charities such as Free the Children, Shepherds of Good Hope and the Ottawa Food Bank through fundraisers and events. Some events that we have run in the past include Fast for Freedom, Walk for Water, Vow of Silence, and Halloween for Hunger.

During the past two years, we have raised $8500 to build a school in Ecuador through Free the Children's Adopt a Village model. We hope to continue making sustainable change in the same community of Llullin, Ecuador by starting a water project. Our goal this year is to raise $5000 to fulfill this objective.

Anti-Bullying Club

The Anti-Bullying Club raises awareness about bullying and related issues. The club plans anti-bullying initiatives throughout the year through assemblies, spirit week events and charity drives. In the club there is a forum for debates, respectful discussion and a safe place for students to speak about their own stories. We meet every Monday at noon in the drama room. Come join us!

Link Crew

The Link Crew is all about leadership! We run programs for the grade 9s, linking them with grade 12s that show them the ropes at Hillcrest. Link Crew is active at assemblies, after school social programs like movie nights and "Cocoa and Cram" sessions in the library. Link Crew members are the best Hillcrest has to offer. It is a credit program, so if you are interested in it for next year, please see your guidance councillor.
