ANTI-RACISM
At Hillcrest we are committed to fighting Racism, bias and prejudice in all forms. To this end, we as a staff are  committed to all Hillcrest students and all our  community members: daily we will increase our  awareness of racism, daily we will build relationships in our schools and in the community, daily we will  create awareness of what racism looks like in our schools. We recognize we are barriers to deconstructing colonialism as a result of our own education and the narrative of what we have been taught and learned in school about racism, race and indigenous racism. We acknowledge our privilege, which has blinded us in our ability to see and truly appreciate racism and its impact. We recognize that racism has an impact on the learning and instructional environment. To this end we view all our work in and outside the classroom through the lens of anti racism and anti oppression stance.

Earlier this week, all OCDSB flags
were lowered in honour of the lives
of the 215 children who were found
buried near a residential school in
Kamloops, B.C. We commit to
remember and ensure the sad
legacy of Canada’s residential
schools is not forgotten.
We have added to our website
resources
 to learn more about
residential schools along with
mental health supports available.
